AOPA Project Pilot Can Help You Learn to Fly!

Join Today

If you'd like to learn to how to fly, or just want to know more about becoming a pilot, then AOPA's free Project Pilot program can help you achieve your dream of flight. How?

AOPA Project Pilot is a mentoring program between experienced pilots and new or prospective student pilots. Mentors come from within the ranks of AOPA's 408,000 members. And, just as with your Mentor, prospective student pilots come from the Mentor's own circle of friends, relatives, coworkers, or neighbors. In short, Mentors invite people that they know into the world of private planes and pilots; offer to take them for an introductory flight; introduce them to a flight school; and then encourage and coach them while they learn to fly.

Mentors are not flight instructors; they're just everyday general aviation pilots who provide their students with inspiration, encouragement, and assistance while helping other people become pilots. And it works; student pilots who have a Mentor are three times more likely than other students to complete their flight training and become certificated pilots.

When you join, you'll receive a Welcome Kit that includes several useful publications, and a DVD with materials on it for you and your family and friends.

Eligibility

You don't need to be an active student pilot to participate in AOPA Project Pilot; you can just be interested in learning to fly. But you do need an AOPA Project Pilot Mentor who'll work with you to help you reach your goal, and you need a valid e-mail address.
